The Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the five club’s 2017 scholarship awards. The recipient is Dayana Espinosa of Ft. Pierce.

Dayana Espinosa was born in Ft Pierce. Her parents, Gilberto and Maria Espinosa are from Mexico. Dayana graduated from Westwood High School. She will attend Florida Indian River State College and will major in the Medical Field. She would like to pursue a career as a Nurse.

The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness and academics. The following members are part of the board of directors: Ruben Aleman, president; Nancy Rozon, vice president; Luis Carrillo, treasurer; Al Feliciano, secretary; Ray Guadalupe, public relations; Isa Bryson, director; and Carlos Mejia, substitute. The following members are part of the scholarship committee: Nancy Rozon, Chair; Fe Valderuten and Ron Bryson, co-chairs.

The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income Hispanic students. Over the past 25 years, the club has awarded more than $28,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic senior of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having 50/50 raffles at the monthly dance parties. The board also organizes other events such as picnics, cruises and garage sales. The committees organize events such as bowling, golf and dominoes tournaments. The members bowl every Monday at 6:00 P.M. at the Saint Lucie Lanes. The bowling group has a 50/50 raffle on the first Monday of the month.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other non profit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.The following students have been awarded scholarships since 1994.

Spanish American Club celebrates Mothers Day

“Celebrating our 25th Anniversary every month”

The Annual Mother’s Day Party hosted by The Spanish American Club, Inc. was celebrated on Saturday, May 27 at the Disabled American Veterans Club in Port St. Lucie.

Before the dinner, master of ceremonies our president Ruben Aleman and public relations director, Ray Guadalupe updated the members about the next events and thanked every one of them for their continued support. Ivan Guanill announced a Billiard Pool Tournament this summer. Al Feliciano distributed a flyer for our Western Caribbean 11 night cruise on the fabulous Norwegian Jade sailing December 7, 2017.

The members and their guests enjoyed a delicious buffet catered by Santo’s Pizzeria. The meal consisted of salad, bread, chicken parmesan, sausage with peppers, mixed veggies, dessert and coffee.

After the dinner, the board conducted the raffles and celebrated the member’s birthdays of the month of April and May. Entertainer D.J. José Ramírez played a Happy Birthday song for them, among them were: Birthdays (Standing) Alma Locayo, Carlos Bonet, Al Manzanares, Carlos Mejia, Irene Mori, Daisy Velez, José Santiago, Ruben Aleman, Jose Rodriguez, unidentified guest, and Herman Santa. Door prize winners were: Ismael Cosme, Nelson Santoni, Rosendo Gonzalez, Virginia Gonzalez, Olga Guillen, Uta McFadden, Maria Allen, Unidentified guest, Vivian Megaro and Javier Andrade. 50/50 winners were: Mery Figliola and Unidentify guest. The Highlight of the night was Ray Matias who danced a Zorbas dance Uta McFaden before every one came to the dance floor.

A big thank to our board of directors, decoration and the set ups committees. And finally, many thanks go to the members and their guests who bought tickets for the scholarship raffles.  The board is planning the next dance, to celebrate Next up on the calendar of events of the club is the Annual Father’s Day/Anniversary Dinner Dance on Saturday, June 24, which will also be held at the Disabled American Veterans Hall. Reservations are required.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization comprised of members in Martin and St. Lucie who are dedicated to the promotion and preserve of the Hispanic heritage on the Treasure Coast. The club has become quite influential in the Treasure Coast area, playing a key role, for instance, in the scholarship program for Hispanic students.  Over the past 25 years, the club has awarded more than $28,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic seniors of Martin and St. Lucie counties.

Future events of the club this year: Independences Dance, Saturday, July 29; Beach Party Dance, Saturday August 26; Luau Dance, Saturday September 30; Halloween Dance, Saturday October 28; Thanksgiving Dance, Saturday November 25 and Christmas Dance, Friday December 22. Festejan los socios del Spanish American Club, Inc. “SACI” el Día de las Madres

“Celebrando el 25Avo. aniversario todo los meses”

El pasado sábado 27 de mayo, el “Spanish American Club, Inc.” celebró su cena/baile anual en honor a las madres en el Disabled American Veterans Club en Port St. Lucie.  El baile estuvo amenizado por el D.J. José Ramírez.

Los socios empezaron con un coctél y disfrutaron de un delicioso bufét preparado por Santo’s Pizzeria. Los maestros de ceremonias fueron el Presidente Rubén Alemán y el Director de Relaciones Públicas Ray Guadalupe.  Antes de la cena, Ruben le dió la bienvenida a todos y nos informó de las actividades del club.  Iván Guanill anunció el Torneo de Billiard Pool para el verano. Al Feliciano distribuyó información del crucero de 11 noches el 7 de diciembre por el Western Caribbean en el fabuloso Norwegian Jade.

Después de la cena y las rifas nuestro D.J. José Ramírez le tocó una canción de cumpleaños a los socios que estaban celebrando sus cumpleaños en los meses de abril y mayo. Entre ellos estaban presentes: Alma Locayo, Carlos Bonet,  Al Manzanares, Carlos Mejía, Irene Mori, Daisy Vélez, José Santiago, Rubén Alemán, José Rodriguez, Berta Pérez, Herman Santa, Millie Asencio, Lucy Santa, Isa Bryson y Stella Páez.

Los ganadores de los premios fueron: Ismael Cosme, Nelson Santoni, Rosendo González, Virginia González, Olga Guillén, Uta McFadden, María Allen, Vivian Megaro and Javier Andrade. José nos puso a bailar desde muy temprano con sus ritmos modernos. Lo pasamos divinamente, de verdad que la fiesta ha sido una de las mejores fiestas en muchos años.  Reinó la alegria, el amor y la camaradería.  Mil gracias a nuestro presidente Rubén Alemán y su comitiva por un evento bien planeado.

El SACI es una organización sin fines de lucro fundada en el 1992 para conservar y promover la cultura hispana en la Costa del Tesoro. La próxima actividad de los socios este mes está planeada pare el sábado 24 de junio para celebrar el “Día de los Padres/Aniversario del club” en el mismo local.  Reservación es requerida.

El calendario de actividades del club para el resto del año son las siquientes: Baile de las Indepencias, sábado 29 de julio; Fiesta de Playa, sábado 26 de agosto; Fiesta de Luau sábado 30 de septiembre; Fiesta de las Brujas, sábado 28 de octubre; Baile de Acción de Gracias, sábado 25 de noviembre; Crucero, jueves 7 de diciembre y Baile/Cena de Navidad, viernes 27 de diciembre. The Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the five club’s 2017 scholarship awards. The recipient is Barbara Moreno of Stuart.

Barbara was born in Venezuela. Her parents, Luis Moreno was born in Venezuela and her mother Monica also was born in Venezuela. Barbara is attending Clark Advanced Learning Center in Stuart. She will attend Florida International University and will major in Biomedical Engineering. She would like to pursue a career as an Engineer.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the five club’s 2017 scholarship awards. The recipient is Moriah Weir of Ft. Pierce.

Moriah was born in Manhattan, New York. Her parents, Michael Weir was born in Jamaica and her mother Jackie Weir was born in Trinidad. Moriah is attending Fort Pierce Central and she will graduate with a 4.59 GPA ranked #72 in her senior class of approximately 700 students. She will attend the University of Florida and will major in Journalism and Mass Communication. She would like to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism.

The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness and academics. Jennifer was born in Ft. Pierce, Florida. Her father, Sergio Arriola is from Matagalpa, Nicaragua and her mother Maria De Sales Marcos is from Oaxaca, Mexico. Jennifer is attending Westwood High School and she will graduate with a 5.41 GPA ranked #5 in her senior class of approximately 367 students. She will attend Florida Southern College and will major in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law. She would like to pursue a career as an immigration Attorney. She will also be part of the Army ROTC program at Florida Southern.

My name is Jennifer Arriola and I was born and raised in Fort Pierce, FL. My mother, Maria Marcos, is from Oaxaca, Mexico. My father, Sergio Arriola, is from Matagalpa, Nicaragua. I attend Fort Pierce Westwood High School and will graduate with highest honors with a 5.41 GPA ranked #5 in my class of about 367 students. I am a member of honor societies such as the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa Nu Iota Chapter. I was on my school’s competitive rifle shooting team for about four years, and was the captain one year. I played Varsity soccer and volleyball at my high school. I have accumulated a total of 853.89 community service hours. My favorite thing to do is to run! I will be attending Florida Southern College starting Fall 2017. I will major in Political Science, with a minor in Pre-Law. I will also be part of the Army ROTC program at Florida Southern. My long term goal is to become an immigration attorney.

The Spanish American Club, Inc. awards scholarship

The Spanish American Club, Inc. is proud to recognize one outstanding student selected to receive one of the five club’s 2017 scholarship awards. The recipient is Gabriela Garcia of Ft. Pierce.  Gabriela Garcia was born in Ft. Pierce, Florida. Her parents, José Garcia and María Garcia were born in Mexico. Gabriela is attending Fort Pierce Central and she will graduate with a 5.3 GPA ranked #10 in her senior class of approximately 700 students. She will attend University of Florida and will major in Health Science with a Pre-Medicine Track. She would like to pursue a career as an Orthopedic Surgeon.

The scholarship committee selected the students for their achievements, trustworthiness, character, responsibility, fairness and academics. The following members are part of the board of directors: Ruben Aleman, president; Nancy Rozon, vice president; Luis Carrillo, treasurer; Al Feliciano, secretary; Ray Guadalupe, public relations; Isa Bryson, director and Carlos Mejia, substitute. The following members are part of the scholarship committee: Nancy Rozon, Chair; Fe Valderuten and Ron Bryson, co-chairs.

The scholarship was established in 1992 for low-income Hispanic students. Over the past 25 years, the club has awarded more than $28,000 in scholarships to the Hispanic senior of Martin and St. Lucie counties. The board raises money for the scholarships by having 50/50 raffles at the monthly dance parties. The board also organizes other events such as picnics, cruises and garage sales. The committees organize events such as bowling, golf and dominoes tournaments. The members bowl every Monday at 6:00 P.M. at the Saint Lucie Lanes. The bowling group has a 50/50 raffle on the first Monday of the month.

The mission of the club is to promote friendship and solidarity among its members, neighbors and other non profit organizations of the Treasure Coast through cultural, social, civic, charity and sports activities to promote knowledge of the Spanish speaking countries, their geography, history, art and folklore.
